Add Some Creativity with Additional Sections (CV Writing Guide)

If you’ve come this far, you’re nearly there! By now you would have revised your Profile, refined your Skills, uplifted your Experience and updated your Education. But, what else can you include?

Voluntary Experience

Never underestimate the power of giving back to your community, organisation or university on a voluntary basis. There are skills learned that you can transfer to any work environment, while also highlighting some passion projects or interests you may have away from your professional life. This will add significant value and credibility to YOU, as a person.

Hobbies and Interests

If including this to your CV, try and avoid cliché terms like ‘Socialising with friends’, ‘Reading’, ‘Walking’ etc. If this interest slowly turned into a hobby where you joined a book club, then add this to your CV (as it is then a talking point).

Academic Projects

This applies to those who recently completed or are currently studying in third-level institutions. It can also apply to those looking for a career move into a different industry. Include any projects, field-work or placements completed as this will help to SHOW your ability to transfer your theoretical knowledge into practical settings.

Achievements / Career Highlights

CVs are designed to be action-orientated and if there are elements that you would like to bring forward to the first page, include them under this heading. This is particularly helpful for established C-Suite professionals.

References

This section depends on the length of the CV. Usually ‘References Available on Request’ is acceptable, but it is also implied that references will be provided when asked, so you can remove this section from the CV if you wish.
