Are you sitting at your computer, ready to write or update your CV but are unsure what to include or how it should look? A CV is a marketing tool, promoting YOU and your ACHIEVEMENTS. It should accurately highlight your professional background, without overloading the reader. This can often be a difficult task, so we have put together some Dos and Don’ts to help add VALUE to your CV.
Before you start…
Remember that your CV is something that you should be confident in talking about in an interview. It is important that the information you share is accurate.
A CV should be 2-pages in length, perhaps 3-pages if you are a certain point in your career. If you do have a lot of experience, create a Master CV that you can refer to if needed.
A few more things…
Creativity through the use of company logos, font colours or different font styles is a great way to express your personality. Keep the design / formatting elements consistent and minimise its use to prevent overloading the CV. Include your Skills and remember to spellcheck!
On the other hand, avoid long-winded sentences (that can be condensed into a more concise point) and remove any outdated information. This is mainly associated with obsolete technologies or lapsed certifications.
